FEBRUARY 4 the rehearsal of Dancing Master Scene has been moved to February 12 @ 6:30-8:00pm
FEBRUARY 12 the rehearsal of Epilogue (scene VII) Act II has been moved to February 4 @ 2:30-4:00pm

THEREFORE (and to re-iterate the above information in another way)

on Feb. 4 from 2:30 – 4pm we will rehearse Epilogue (scene VII) Act II which includes: Cinderella, Prince, Godmother, Seasons and Fairies.
on Feb. 12 from 6:30-8:00 we will rehearse Dancing Master scene which includes: Cinderella, Dancing Master, and Stepsisters

ALL OTHER REHEARSALS ARE CURRENTLY ON TRACK TO STAY AS SCHEDULED!

The last 5 days and evenings have been a whirlwind of beauty and magic for our Iowa Dance Theatre audience.
Thank you to the more than 150 volunteers who made this year’s Iowa Dance Theatre’s Nutcracker Ballet happen! Our performances are of the highest level of integrity because of all you do!  2011 was my first year of coordinating Nutcracker volunteers.  With this year over, I understand ways we can improve your experiences as volunteers as well as our performers’ experiences, and I Iook forward to 2012!

A Few Special Thanks:

Maryam Shirazi, our Sugar Plum Tea Party Coordinator, and folks who hosted, including our cast members: The guests who attended the Tea Party smiled from ear to ear, were enthralled with the experience, and will have memories for a life time, thanks to you!  Thank you to Cheryl Angier, our story teller as well!

Deb Elliott, who returned, though her dancer has graduated, and coordinated our Nutcracker Boutiques! She and her volunteers, some veterans and some new, presented an amazing storefront!  And, they kicked off our excitement for the March, Cinderella Ballet!

Michelle Rice, and her team of volunteers and donorsmade sure our cast members celebrated and enjoyed dinner Saturday afternoon during the Cast Party.  Thank you Michelle for making this happen!

Thank you to Deb Markert and her make-up team! Because of you, our dancers had all they needed to look their parts, making Iowa Dance Theatre’s production a polished performance!  Deb spends hours sorting, labeling and organizing individual make-up bags for our nearly 200 cast members!

Andy Popson and his crew oversaw and actually did the moving for all of our stage props and costumes!  His work is priceless!

Tom Moorhead, a cast member, and father of a dancer, Thank you for giving our website a new face and continuing to assist IDT in using technology to communicate with members and the public more effectively.

To our dancers who encouraged each other during auditions as well as prior to taking the stage, who helped new dancers and parents navigate the Civic Center backstage area, who helped each other with costumes, make-up, hair and remembering choreography, THANK YOU, for making Iowa Dance Theatre a pleasurable company to perform with.

Everyone else who may have helped out at rehearsals, assisted with the costuming, hosted the sign-in tables, applied make-up, chaperoned, helped dance directors, or jumped in just because you saw a need, THANK YOU very much of sharing your time, your talents, and your enthusiasm.

Personally, I have to also thank our many dance directors for working collaboratively and cooperatively so that all of our dancers grow during their time with you.  As our dancers watch your working together they are learning more than just dance. I believe that it is this collaborative effort that puts this magic in Iowa Dance Theatre’s productions!  It is the one element that surprises and impresses our audience as they read our program and understand the level of community collaboration we achieve.  Each of you brings so much to our dancers and the production, and the spirit of graciousness shines through on stage.

3:30-4:15 – Entrada and Angels scene (2 representatives from: Spanish, Arabian, Chinese, Hungarian, Candy Canes, Merlitons, Russian and Gingers as determined by the rehearsal director, rose queen, all angels, dew drop, rosebuds, Drosselmeyer, big Clara, big Nutcracker)
4:15-4:45 – Act 2 Variations Run Through in show order: Spanish, Arabian, Chinese, Hungarian,
4:45-5:15 – Act 2 Variations Run Through in show order continued: Candy Canes, Merlitons, Russian, Mother Ginger scene, Flowers
5:15-6:00 – Finale and Bows (Includes everyone in act 2 and Snow Pas, Rat Queen, Drosselmeyer, small Nutcracker and small Clara)
6:00-7:00 – Run Through for other cast in show order from Entrada up to but not including Finale (Dancers may leave rehearsal when they have completed their dance… dancers under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent in order to leave the rehearsal room)

CIVIC CENTER REHEARSAL SCHEDULE: Enter through stage door on west of building. REMINDER: Photos and video are allowed for your personal use during rehearsals, but will not be allowed during performances. The cast that is not dancing on stage should be watching from the audience. Dancers and Parents who are not chaperones during rehearsals are allowed to watch from the front few rows of the audience.
Wednesday December 14
4:30-7:00 Party Scene and Battle Scene spacing rehearsals (Saturday/Sunday cast in costume) Saturday matinee cast will be first on stage… all other casts will be in the audience during the rehearsal for their scene and then meet the rehearsal director for notes backstage near the check in table after each run through of their scene. Saturday evening cast will go second in costume and Sunday Matinee cast of Battle will go immediately after the Saturday evening run through of Party/Battle
7:00 – 8:45 Act 2 ALL beginning with Angels (Saturday/Sunday casts in costume) then returning to the beginning with the Fri/Sunday cast. Then each variation in show order will first quickly space their scene without music, then run their dance with music for the Saturday/Sunday cast. School Show Sugar Plum will rehearse last. Finale will not be rehearsed, so you may leave the theater as soon as your rehearsal director dismisses you.
8:45-9:30 Snow Scene staging rehearsal in costume beginning with Snow Pas
Thursday, December 15 – Full Dress Rehearsal for School Show Cast (no makeup) (note: Snow Scene is not called to rehearsal today)
4:30-5:30 School Show version of Party and Battle (Public performance casts are not called to this rehearsal) with Narrator.
5:30-8:00 Act 2 Run through with School Show cast to end of ballet (school show version of finale) and then return to the beginning to rehearse alternate casts of variations as needed.
8:00 – 8:30 FINALE and BOWS rehearsal for public performances with Guest Artist Sugar Plum and Cavalier
Friday, December 16 – School shows and Act 1 rehearsals

4:00pm CAST PARTY all dancers of all casts and their families are invited to the party on the 2nd floor of the east lobby at the Civic Center. Professional photos taken at the theater in costume and Professional videos of each public performance will be on sale at the cast party.
5:00-6:15pm Warm up class on stage
6:30pm CAST CALL for 7:00pm Performance – if you have not signed in at the volunteer table by this time, you will be replaced in the performance with your understudy.
Sunday, December 18 – Performance Day!
Noon-1:15pm Warm up class on stage open to all, but recommended for dancers ages 11 and up

4:00 Load out – please make sure all your belongings are out of the Civic Center and dressing rooms are tidy when you leave.
