IDT’s Cinderella Ballet with all new choreography by Kennet Oberly to be performed at Urbandale Performing Arts Center on March 10-11, 2012
Many dancers were unable to audition when Kennet was able to be in Des Moines to audition in person on October 15. This second chance audition will be videotaped and sent to Kennet for casting. We hope to have the ballet fully cast by Dec. 15. We also listened to the dancers and revamped the rehearsal schedule to hopefully allow more dancers to participate during this busy time of year. We encourage you to audition even if you think you may miss up to 4 rehearsals and make a final decision about whether you can participate after you have seen the schedule for your role. If you have already auditioned, you have already been assigned a role but you are welcome to participate in these video auditions because it will be helpful for Kennet to see you again among the new auditioners, and it is a free class for you.
November 27 and November 30

IDT is committed to providing quality performance opportunities to the wider dance community in Des Moines. Cinderella was chosen as a way to nurture area dancers because:
- The large cast of the ballet provides opportunities for a wide range of dancers from the rollicking 8 year olds to the more serious teens and beyond.
- The music by Prokofiev is an education in itself. It is beautiful and inspiring.
- Guest Choreographer, Kennet Oberly, will stage a totally new version of this famous ballet tailored to the talents of the dancers who participate. Mr. Oberly studied at Harkness Ballet in NYC, and Stuttgart ballet in Germany. As a dancer, he performed in Stuttgart ballet (during the directorship of John Cranko), and the Bejart Ballet in Europe as well as Tulsa Ballet and Ballet Iowa for which he eventually became the Artistic Director and resident Choreographer. He has directed ballet schools in Iowa, Vermont and Ohio and has choreographed and taught extensively throughout Europe and the United States and is recognized as one of the world’s experts on the Bournonville Ballet Technique. He currently teaches at schools in La Crosse, WI and Rochester, MN.
